Neymar Can Surpass Pele’s Record, Says Cafu

<

Brazil legend Cafu says that Neymar could surpass Pele as the country’s greatest ever goalscorer. The legendary right-back, who captained the Seleção to World Cup victory in 2002, suggests that the Barcelona man could overtake Pele’s achievements and be recognised as the most prolific scorer for Brazil.

The ex-Roma and Milan man thinks Neymar has enough time to achieve the milestone, with Neymar currently on 50. Pele’s record is 77, All records exist only to be beaten. Of course, Neymar has got it in him,” Cafu told FIFA.com.

"He's young and has time on his side. If he continues playing as he is now, then there is every possibility he will [overtake Pele].” However, Cafu is less sure that the Barca striker can surpass Cafu’s record of 142 caps for his country.

“I think this is understandable because no one has played for Brazil over such a long period of time as me - 16 years! It is purely down to strength of will, my devotion to football and the effort I put in during all this time.”
