Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus insists that Sport Recife’s Diego Souza will be a good signing for Palmeiras, if indeed they manage to land the attacker.

The 32-year old has been in fine form for Sport, even warranting a recall to the Brazilian national side. Palmeiras initially bought Miguel Borjas from Atletico Nacional to replace Jesus.

However, the Colombian has yet to settle at Verdão, who are now in for Souza. Souza has not trained with Sport this weekend and has been omitted from the squad to play Coritiba on Monday evening.

In Brazil, a player cannot transfer to another club if he has played seven times for his team in that season. Souza has played 6 games for Sport this year, so his exclusion makes a move seem like a foregone conclusion.

Sport issued a statement explaining that "the manager of the player (Eduardo Uram) contacted the club and claimed personal reasons for his absence.”

Speaking at an event for Instituto Projeto Neymar Jr. in Praia Grande, Jesus said, “I had a little contact with Diego in the national team, he's a very good guy.

“He deserves everything in his career, because he's a ‘craque’. I'm going to be very happy for him to be happy wherever he goes.”
