Liverpool legend says new contract won’t stop Barca Coutinho interest

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard says that The Reds should build around Brazilian attacker Philippe Coutinho, who signed a new 5 year contract with the club this week. Gerrard recently rejoined the club as an academy coach following his retirement from playing.

Gerrard, a former teammate of Coutinho, insists that he is amongst the very best in the game and that Liverpool should focus their team building around his talent, “I think for any team you have always got to try and keep your best players and Philippe has been instrumental over the last couple of years,” Gerrard told Goal.

“He has grown and become a world-class talent. I have trained against him on a daily basis and played with him and he is a phenomenal footballer. He can do magical things with the ball.

“He is the type of player you want to build your team around. And if Liverpool are to be successful in the coming years then I am sure he will have a big part to play in it. He is a magical player.
