Neymar “Fundamental” for Brazil, says Coutinho

Brazil defender Marquinhos is using his recent experience with Paris Saint Germain to keep his feet on the ground for Brazil. The PSG defender has become a guaranteed starter at centre half under Tite.

Brazil currently lead the CONMEBOL table by 7 points and look certain to qualify for the World Cup. However, Marquinhos was part of the PSG side that ceded a 4-0 first leg win over Barcelona in the Champions League to lose the second leg 6-1.

The 22-year old is using this experience to not take Brazil’s position for granted, “We came from a 4-0 win over Barcelona with a lot of good things around us. Then, we lost 6-1. Football is made up of these moments.

“I try to be very positive in my life, always taking a positive spin on things. It's hard to do this in a defeat like that, but it will help to keep my feet on the ground, knowing that football is made of these moments.”

Marquinhos says Brazil need to put the current admiration they are receiving to one side and concentrate on guaranteeing World Cup qualification, “We are on the right track, but the most important thing is to gain cohesion and confidence until we achieve qualification.

“Today, the moment we live in is causing us to see admiration and affection of all for our work. Let's take advantage of this phase of confidence to progress more and more.”
