Neymar Not Concerned About Ballon D’Or

Atlético Mineiro striker Fred says that he is not preoccupied with thoughts of a recall to the international scene. The 33 year old striker has been in top form for Galo of late, with 15 goals in 13 matches.

He netted four in 21 minutes against Bolivia’s Sport Boys in the Copa Libertadores this week, making him the country’s in form striker. Fred effectively retired from international football in the wake of the 2014 World Cup, wherein he received wide criticism.

Back on form and happier with life in his hometown of Belo Horizonte, Fred says he is not thinking of a recall, “My whole life is bound to be the will of God. I had said that Seleção is not an obsession, but that I would feel honoured, because this is the peak of the profession.

“But I'm happy to wear the Galo shirt, to live in this moment, to feel important.” Fred was a childhood Atlético fan, but has represented Cruzeiro and América Mineiro too before he left for Europe to play for Lyon.

“I do not even care if I'm the best striker. We have big attackers. I know that sometimes some people have better times than others. I think I'm among the best. But being the best is a lot at the moment, just to be among the top five attackers, I'm already satisfied.”
